Divya Sara John: Divya Sara John is an Indian classical dancer
since the age of 4and half years old. She has danced on 100s of occasions for several prestigious audience in and out of Nevada State. Her Kuchipudi performance has captured the admiration of all her audience. She is the only one Kuchipudi artist in Las Vegas who could dance rythmatically on a brass plate while balancing a pot of water on her head. She has won numerous compliments and awards for her performances.
FRIENDS OF INDIA is a registered non-profit cultural and social organisation of the Indian American community in Las Vegas.
It was founded in 1985. It organises various cultural events of India including tradition festivals such as Holi (Spring festival),
Diwali (Festival of lights), Indian independance and republic days and other regional celebrations from India.
Diwali is the major event every year. Many talented members from the community present various cultural programmes during this festival. Since 9 years Friends of India members have been taking part in various community festivals of Las Vegas including international food festival, folk festival, asian pacific heritage, international parade and festival etc.
The current president of the organisation is Mr. Hitesh Chokshi and the president elect is Dr. Jaldeep Daulat.
Indian Classical Dance
Classical indian dance is the world's most ancient dance form. It is based on a book called Natya Sastra which is from 200 BC. Bharat Natyam and Kuchipudi are two major forms of Indian classical dance. It consists of 6 components such as rythm, poetry, melodious music, facial expression combined with exquisite body movements and enchanting foot work. Each dance potrays an event or a person or tells a story usually from the ancient Hindu scriptures.
FRIENDS OF INDIA is going to present few classical dances including a Kuchipudi dance and a fashion show for the 1st Annual International folk festival of Las Vegas.
KERALA IS THE SOUTH WEST STATE OF INDIA. IT IS KNOWN AS THE EMERALD STATE OF INDIA BECAUSE OF ITS GREEN FIELDS, COCONUT GROVES, BACK WATERS AND LAKES. KERALA ASSOCIATION OF LAS VEGAS IS A NON-PROFIT SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ORGANIZATION FOR THE PEOPLE OF KERALA STATE.
THE ASSOCIATION ORGANIZES MANY CULTURAL EVENTS. ONAM FESTIVAL IS THE BIGGEST EVENT OF THIS YEAR. IT WILL BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2005 AT FLAMINGO LIBRAY THEATER BETWEEN 4 PM AND 8 PM.
ADMISSION IS FREE.

IN THE FASHION SHOW, THE LATEST FASHION IN INDIA'S TRADITIONAL COSTUMES ARE DISPLAYED INCLUDING, SKIRTS, PANTS, SUITES, SALWARS ETC. ALSO A WIDE VARIETY OF TRADITIONAL AND COSTUME JEWELRY ARE EXHIBITED BY PARTICIPANTS OF DIFFERENT AGE GROUP.
